MY Trip to Thailand to Study Muay Thai Part 5 (Climbing to Big Buddha)

Recently, I Put out across the globe to study Muay Thai in Thailand. There were many reasons for this travel. What was a quest to boost my understanding of muaythai in order to enhance my curriculum at my Muay Thai gymnasium in Salt Lake City, immediately became much more than that.

In prep for my trek, I began obsessively studying all there is to learn about Thailand. I’ve never traveled overseas much, therefore that I didn’t know what I was searching for. I learned that Thailand is 95 percent Buddhist. In contrast, I hail from the country of Utah, where it often tomes feels like you’re surrounded my Mormons, person in the Mormon faith make less than 50% of the neighborhood populace. This intrigued me. Much of their history is full of conflicts, wars, murders, terrorist bombings and other outright despicable actions of violence, and all in the name of religion.

I began reading everything that I could regarding Buddhism, as it sounded logical to me that familiarity with the religion that’s really prominent in an area would help better prepare me for seeing their nation.

In my studies, I learned all about the remarkable Buddhist temples that are present at Thailand. It was the Big Buddha statue that sits atop a mountain side, overlooking the town of Phuket.

Additionally, I learned that Tiger muaythai, the gymnasium I had been planing a trip to teach at times up a run to this particular monument once every week. I recent Facebook article about the series, reads as follows;

Tiger Muay Thai offers the Big Buddha run every Tuesday, as a portion of its everyday human anatomy fit classes. Guests meet in front of Tiger’s office and so are hauled to the base of Large Buddha to start the journey. Big Buddha is among Phuket’s most important and revered landmarks. It’s a big Buddha marble statue which sits on the maximum point in Phuket. It’s a steep 4KM (2.5 mile) scale from the base of this hill, at which we begin our Buddha run.

Each time you take action you will notice brand new things. Elephants, monkeys, butterflies, birds, lizards, and more.

Along the way there’s also spectacular viewpoints overlooking Phuket. It’s challenging mentally and physically. Come join us to get a run/walk up the Big Buddha Only at Tiger Muaythai at Phuket, Thailand.

I came to the conclusion that I had to oppose that hill and also watch Big Buddha upward close.

I discovered some footage on the line that revealed the run up that mountain. It seemed laborious!

After a great deal of internal debate, I decided I would get this to climb, however I would do it by myself. I’d experienced my very first muaythai class at Tiger muaythai. That was Friday. I decided I’d make this trek in my own on Saturday. So much with this trip has are more concerning personal discovery than what it initially set out to become. I desired to learn if I really could do it, and that I wanted to do that on my own. I didn’t need anybody yelling at me, or pushing me… it was time to allow ME to push me.

I got up first, and put out to my own มรภ.สวนสุนันทา climb. I asked the woman at front desk what could be the best approach to walk into Big Buddha. She laughed at me and said,’It may look very close, because it’s so big. It’s truly very much, so allow me to call you a cab.

Actually, I’m very glad I took her on that advice. The bottom of the mountain has been 10 miles away in my hotel. My personal challenge was to climb that mountain, not head on a 10 mile hike, then climb that mountain.

Immediately upon arrival at the base, however, I was stunned at how steep the terrain was. There have been places which were close vertical climbs.

My cab driver hoped it would take me one hour or so to get to the very top, and said he’d pick me up afterward. I honestly made it inn 35 minutes. An occasion I’m quite proud of, given that my age and illness. I would like to create that climb after this training camp to find out how much better I would do, however, my knees were swollen for weeks after this climb. My second trip, I’d choose the taxi completely on the top.

As was clarified from the face book post above, you will find beautiful things to see, from lush green landscape, to dinosaurs, dinosaurs, and similar indigenous wild life. This was an awesome experience really, but all that has been overshadowed by the beauty of the shrine itself. It’s an remarkable spectacle. Inside, you will find many bigger Buddha’s and also a temple, together with living quarters for its Buddhist Monks. The view from the top of the mountain, has the opportunity to see the sea on each side of the island, in addition to the city of Patong. This is a must see for anyone visiting Phuket.

My legs were virtually captured up by the time the cab returned me to my own hotel. Two-a-day work out, one each morning, and something in the afternoon was in my own agenda. My entire body was sore from a week’s workout, and now my thighs were trashed from the lift… what have I gotten myself in to?
